ScrewTurn Wiki 3.0 has a number of great new features and improvements.

Namespaces

STW now supports namespaces, independent collections of pages and categories. For example, this wiki has a Help namespace entirely dedicated to user's documentation.

Namespaces can be used to better organize and separate content. With version 2.0, you often had to install multiple wiki instances for separating the work of different teams or groups. With v3, you can simply create multiple namespaces in the same wiki and manage their permissions according to your needs.

Search Engine

Image
The search engine has been completely redesigned and it is now based on a content index. Searching through hundreds of pages now takes under a second and yields more accurate results.

When you perform a search, the wiki now searches for files and attachments as well as pages content and discussion messages, while v2 only allowed to search pages content.

WYSIWYG Editor

Image
ScrewTurn Wiki 3.0 includes a new What You See Is What You Get editor, so that editing a page is much simpler than before. Although the new visual editor does not support all features of WikiMarkup, it still makes your life easier.

All content created with the new editor is converted to WikiMarkup behind the scenes, so you can use both editing methods at the same time.

Page Attachments

Image
You can now add real attachments to wiki pages, which are stored independently from all the other uploaded files. Each page can have an unlimited number of attachments and they can be downloaded using the Attachments drop-down menu.

Attachments can also be used and linked inside page content and, as mentioned above, are part of the search results.

Image Editor

The new version includes an easy-to-use image editor that you can use to resize and rotate pictures directly in the browser.

The editor supports files and attachments in JPEG and PNG format and it preserves the alpha channel for the latter. When you are done, you can decide whether to save the result in a new file or to overwrite the existing picture.

Advanced Permissions System

Version 3.0 sports a full-featured permissions system that allows you to specify a wide range of permissions for groups and single users. Permissions can be applied to namespaces, single pages and upload directories, as well as to a set of global actions normally reserved to administrators.

The new security systems also features a change moderation mechanism that allows to review a change before publishing it. With this new tool, you can even permit to anonymous users to edit pages because any change must be approved by an administrator before being visible by other users. If the change does not meet the required criteria, it can be rejected with a single click.

The ACLs (Access Control Lists) are pre-set with a default configuration that mimics the settings of version 2.0, but you can configure it to fit your own needs.

Plugin Framework

The Plugin Framework has been greatly improved. All data are now managed using providers and ScrewTurn Wiki can now work without writing a single byte on the local file-system, if you want.
